America, the land of vast opportunity and endless wealth so long as you work hard for it. As we know it, there are levels to being a middle class citizen there are the working middle class who’s said to have some college, the lower middle class who has a bachelors degree, and the upper middle class with graduate degrees. Below are photos of Mandela Pio who is a Florida Resident and North East African native, and her journey to maintain her “working” middle class status. Migrating from Khartoum, Sudan, to Oklahoma in 2002 Mandela and her family set out to do whatever it takes to acquire the American Dream. From Oklahoma they moved to South Dakota, Missouri and then branching out on her own, Mandela made the decision to move to Florida.

Currently, Mandela works four jobs one as a Greeter at Lazy Days the RV authority located in Tampa, FL, the second as a Sales associate at Universal Studios located in Orlando, FL, the third as a sales associate at Ross clothing store located in Lakeland, FL, and the fourth as a hairstylist at her aunts African hair braiding salon Astan African Hair Braiding also located in Lakeland, FL.

Many of us like Mandela are fighting to remain middle class citizens with the dream of becoming upper class. The truth is, there is a growing inequality in America between the middle class and lower class, so much to the point where things seem as though the world is heading to only having two classes the rich, and the poor with the middle being flushed out so either you’ve fought and made it to the rich category or fell below the line to the poor category.
