Thursday, March 3, 2016 leaders in Tampa approved the first reading of an ordinance to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana. Currently, city attorneys say a person caught having 20 grams or less of marijuana, is arrested and put into the criminal justice system. Council will hold a second and final public hearing march 17th. If it passes, the ordinance would go into effect in April.
All of this has little to do with Floridians being avid to get high, and more to do with tax payers and law enforcement officers being sick of wasting tax dollars and judicial resources on small- time possession charges that often get dropped or reduced. In general, the citizens of Florida want sufferers who can benefit from the herb to get relief, unnecessary government spending curbed, and personal freedoms protected.
